| Dems Should Thank Nader, Not Trash Him
I was part of a group of people in my class at St. Michael's High School in Santa Fe who, when we were assigned to participate in a mock presidential election, decided Bill Clinton and Bob Dole were unacceptable choices and began looking for another option. We discovered Nader. We decided to try a political experiment: We wouldn't engage in any debate on the issues. We wouldn't even really educate ourselves on what Nader believed. We would simply try to make voting for him cool, and see if we could win the school's mock election that way. For many of us, it wasn't about the issues. It was about protesting the two-party system that has been dominated by white men and corrupted by money. A few weeks before the election, a poll of students confirmed what we suspected: Nader was way ahead of Dole and right on the heels of Clinton in our mock election.
Kotobukiya's 'Star Wars' Bounty Hunter Series
Kotobukiya is expanding its ARTFX line of statues with a series of six popular bounty hunters from the Star Wars saga. First up will be Boba Fett, the Mandalorian Menace, who is the most popular of all the Star Wars killers for hire. After Boba Fett's debut in April of 2008 Kotobukiya will release a new bounty hunter every month in the series of snap-fit kits that will also include Dengar, 4-LOM, Zuckass, Bossk, and IG-88. Each kit will come a special bonus part -- collect all six bounty hunters and create a $100 full size Darth Vader statue from the bonus parts. The ARTFX Boba Fett stands nearly 12-inches tall in a dynamic fighting pose, simultaneously flying and firing his flame thrower. The bounty hunters costume, including his distinctive Mandalorian armor, is based on his appearance in Return of the Jedi and is reproduced in great detail. The Boba Fett figure comes with Darth Vader's left arm and a cool base -- the bases of all six figures can be arranged to create an imperial logo.
Blotter: ‘Secret shopper’ paid in faux money orders
A woman who lives on Melton Road near Justin told Denton County sheriff's deputies that she applied for a "secret shopper" job in a newspaper advertisement and received two bogus money orders in the mail. The woman said she was supposed to deposit the money orders in her account and then wire money through a local wire service. She was supposed to document her experience with the wire service and send the information to the "secret shopper" company, according to the packet she got in the mail. Over a period of time, she received two money orders for $2,850 each. She used the first money order before being notified by her bank that it was counterfeit and her account was being debited. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police were notified, since the money orders came from Canada.
Year of no salmon?
The federal government provided $60.4 million in disaster relief in 2006. But the Sacramento River runs that year were fine. This year it's the core West Coast stock that's faltering. The economic weight of commercial and sport season in California and central and southern Oregon alone has been estimated at $61 million between 2001 and 2005, according to the council. Humboldt County Supervisor Jimmy Smith, also a representative to the Klamath Management Zone Fisheries Coalition, said he has hope for a minimal sport fishery in Northern California. He also said that the long-term view may not be terrible. Smith recalled years that saw poor runs and limited spawning that nonetheless produced banner runs three years later. He also remembers huge runs whose offspring apparently fared poorly in the ocean, and did not lead to strong runs three years later.
Hotels end 2007 on sour note
Better yet why don't you and the rest of your cry babies just type your own laws and policy books to keep this town in order which by the way are no different the way the police departments south of havasu along the colorado river who deal with the same jerks that cause the same problems.
