Protect Your Pets From Winter's Woes
Dogs seem to be quite well insulated even on their feet, they're walking around barefoot in the snow," Dr. Nield said. He said to keep your pets warm in the winter, the good 'ole fashioned doghouse is the way to go. And when it comes to outdoor hounds, the vet said they may scarf down more than usual to get enough body heat to stay toasty. But for Jack, he's just wagging his tail and loving life, no matter what the weather may be. "He's pretty spoiled as you can see." The best prescription for keeping your pal happy and healthy- just snuggle up and give 'em lots of love. The vet says it is a good idea for thin-coated breeds to layer up if they're going to be outside. Again, Dr. Nield said it's very important for your pets to be out of the wind, off the ground and always dry.
Ways to relax and get away from the hustle of Acapulco
With its warm nights and white sand beaches, Acapulco is the heart of the Mexican Riviera. The city, which sits on the Pacific about 300 miles south of Mexico City, dates back to 3000 B.C., and rose to prominence as a trading center in the 1500s. In more recent times (especially since Frank Sinatra crooned about the city in the 1957 song, "Come Fly With Me"), tourism has taken over, with a slew of resorts ringing the city's semi-circular bay. Today, the city is perhaps best known for cliff-diving performances, during which acrobatic adventurers plunge from a rocky promontory into the Pacific. Susanna Palazuelos, an event planner who has thrown parties for Queen Elizabeth II, Henry Kissinger and the last five Mexican presidents, has other favorites. Palazuelos, who also serves as head of the Red Cross for the state of Guerrero, has spent most of her life in Acapulco.
AG urges change of course for Caritas
Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton should abandon its role as a top-level academic hospital treating complex cases, and Caritas Carney Hospital in Dorchester should consider becoming a mental health center, says a report on the Archdiocese of Boston's hospital chain by Attorney General Martha Coakley. The report, based on a four-month study, also urges the archdiocese to cede control of the operation of Caritas Christi Health Care System so that an independent board with expertise in healthcare management can run it. The board now answers to Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley. The report is a stern indictment of the church's ability to run the six-hospital chain in an increasingly competitive healthcare environment. "Unless they change course, they will continue to fall behind," Coakley said in an interview.
