Fire Damages Home in Baltimore County

Investigators believe a malfunctioning wood stove caused a fire in Northern Baltimore County. The fire caused major damage to a home in Freeland, near the Pennsylvania border. Crews from Baltimore County and York County, PA responded. The son of the home's owner was home when the fire started. A neighbor noticed the fire, and helped him get out of the house. By the time fire crews arrived, the fire had spread from the wood stove to the garage and then to several other rooms in the home.“No one's been hurt, you know everybody's still healthy and as long as that goes on, that's what life is all about we can redo the rest of the stuff," said James Good, the owner of the home.

ORU alumni support sought

Uncertainty remained Saturday about what effect Richard Roberts' resignation as president will have on Oral Roberts University, but some observers said it was a step toward improvement.

"I think people are going to be waiting and watching: OK, can it survive without a Roberts at the helm?" said Donald R. Vance, professor of biblical languages and literature.

Vance said he thinks alumni need to support ORU as it undergoes this transition, after being led for 42 years by a Roberts. ORU professors are committed to the school's evangelical Christian mission, but that might not be obvious without a TV minister as president, he said. Christian colleges across the country are led by non-ministers -- "it will just be different for us."

ORU leaders have not addressed what role, if any, Roberts will have at the university.

Capello named England boss

The 61-year-old has also expressed a desire to have English coaches as part of his set-up, and will decide who these should be at a later date.

There will not be an immediate announcement of who these might be - candidates suggested have included Stuart Pearce and Alan Shearer - as it will be Capello who chooses them.

FA Director of Communcations Adrian Bevington confirmed Capello would consider adding an English coach to his backroom staff at a later date.

Speaking outside FA headquarters within minutes of Capello's appointment, Bevington said: "Sir Trevor Brooking will discuss the possibility of having an English coach with Fabio Capello.

Confident

"He is happy to include an English coach or coaches but it is not something we have to rush into.

Insurance Company USAA Tops BusinessWeek's List of 'Customer Service ...

NEW YORK, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second consecutive year, insurance company USAA tops BusinessWeek's ranking of "Customer Service Champs." The BusinessWeek list ranks the best providers of customer service, and digs into the techniques, strategies, and tools they use to deliver great service.

Good customer service would seem to be a simple matter. Make policies flexible. Customers don't like playing call-center tag; keep it to a minimum. Hire friendly people, train them well, and reward them with healthy pay and benefits. But delivering the right level of customer service turns out to be hard. Some companies struggle to find smiling teenagers who are willing to work for the minimum wage flipping burgers. Others have the difficult task of ensuring their customers get the same message whether they're online, on the phone, or in the store.

Chester stadium: Two views

The debate has intensified because the costs have escalated and these sports developments have become larger real-estate and entertainment plays," said David Carter, executive director of the University of Southern California Sports Business Institute.

Now, that tension has come anew to the Philadelphia region, specifically to one of Pennsylvania's poorest cities, where Gov. Rendell has promised that a proposed $500 million stadium development will "change the face of Chester forever." He has pledged a pivotal $47 million in state funding that has supporters believing the city will land a Major League Soccer expansion team. A decision is expected soon.

The team would play at a $115 million, 18,500-seat stadium set near the Commodore Barry Bridge and surrounded by what sounds like riverfront paradise - $385 million in restaurants, stores, offices and townhouses.

That pass was thrown with best intentions - just wrong execution

You have to understand where your chasers are, you need to have created space. So, did we have the right opportunities? A lot of the time on Saturday the answer was no.

One of the pitfalls in coaching is people who come in and demand the final result without understanding the processes. Undoubtedly, when I watch the tape, I will see chances where I could have kicked for territory. When I didn't, though, it was because the processes weren't right.

You might ask: why didn't you do this or that? Or kick for territory? We're not stupid, we know what we want to happen, it's just trying to make it happen. One massive kick just doesn't do it any more - it's not that simple.

In order to control the game, you need to be able to influence it and in the second half we just had very little influence.

Portland police mourn death of officer

I will miss your morning sports trivia questions, your unauthorized sports team baseball caps, your friendship, the exceptional way that you've learned to put the stresses of the job in perspective. You have always been a role model to everyone who's ever worked with you. I've known you your whole career, and I can't believe you're gone.

I pray for your wife, children, and family during this horrible time. I'm sure my pain pails in comparison to theirs.

Godspeed brother.

Should You Say Yes to Rental Car Insurance? It Depends

When renting a car, many consumers purchase unnecessary insurance and end up wasting money," says Walter Bell, Alabama insurance commissioner and NAIC president.

Renters should check whether their personal auto insurance policy and a credit card used for the rental provide sufficient coverage without buying additional insurance, NAIC says. Many credit cards include some collision and theft protection, but the benefits are usually secondary to personal auto insurance or the coverage sold by a car rental company.
