Local Gas Station Charging Over $4 Per Gallon Near OIA

ORLANDO, Fla. -- There was a break for the holidays, but gas prices are ready to rise again. One local gas station, though, is already charging customers much more than others.

RAW INTERVIEW: Manager Defends $4.49 Per Gallon

Customers at the independent gas station near the Orlando International Airport are paying $4.49 a gallon. Some of the customers don't know the price they're paying until it's too late.

There are no large signs showing the prices at the station. Most customers are tourists returning rental cars before catching flights at Orlando International Airport. Not all believe it's an honorable way to conduct business.

"It's not fair. It's definitely price gouging during the holiday season," said tourist Les Lazarus.

Even at $4.49 a gallon for regular, most of the pumps were busy at Suncoast Energys on Friday morning.

Readers divided on snubbing water curbs

A THIRD of AdelaideNow readers who voted in a poll said they would break water restrictions to save their gardens as temperatures continue to soar.

From about 800 votes registered by 3pm, 34 per cent said they would break the water restrictions, while the same percentage said they would stick to the guidelines.

The remaining 30 per cent said they would use grey water and rainwater on their gardens. One AdelaideNow reader, Sharon of Adelaide, questioned why residents would break restrictions for their gardens. "I can't believe currently that 34% of respondents would break water restrictions to water their gardens. Your garden won't save you when there is no water to drink, my friends," she said.

The responses are in the wake of forecasts by the Bureau of Meteorology showing Adelaide could have a record-breaking string of 30C-plus days.

Corzine slashes $500M from state budget

The governor presented his "sober and responsible budget" to a joint meeting of the Legislature in the Assembly chambers in Trenton. Earlier in the day, a new Fairleigh Dickinson University/Public Mind poll found 64 percent of the public opposes Corzine's plan to steeply increase highway tolls to pay for transportation improvements and reduce the state's debt.

A majority of those polled, 51 percent, favored "very steep budget cuts" instead.

Corzine said he has heard the public's frustration at the town hall meetings he has held to explain his toll hike proposal.

MSM Hound Won't Hunt!

Meanwhile, Obama's 'I'm not an operating officer' admission seems near-disastrous. a) Obama makes the presidency sound like a grand, slo-mo transformation of vision into legislation. But there are crisis requiring quick, coordinated action, and the type of leader who can act effectively in a crisis is likely to be a good "operating officer" rather than a visionary; b). Once you pass a law you have to implement it, which requires getting results out of the civil service departments. This would seem to be especially true of national health care. The president who ignores the bureaucracy and focuses on 'vision' is apt to be defeated by that bureaucracy. c) Immersing yourself up to the elbows in the various departments is one way to find out the information that bureaucrats are unlikely to pass up the chain of command.
