Local Gas Station Charging Over $4 Per Gallon Near OIA

ORLANDO, Fla. -- There was a break for the holidays, but gas prices are ready to rise again. One local gas station, though, is already charging customers much more than others.

RAW INTERVIEW: Manager Defends $4.49 Per Gallon

Customers at the independent gas station near the Orlando International Airport are paying $4.49 a gallon. Some of the customers don't know the price they're paying until it's too late.

There are no large signs showing the prices at the station. Most customers are tourists returning rental cars before catching flights at Orlando International Airport. Not all believe it's an honorable way to conduct business.

"It's not fair. It's definitely price gouging during the holiday season," said tourist Les Lazarus.

Even at $4.49 a gallon for regular, most of the pumps were busy at Suncoast Energys on Friday morning.

The Truth about Cars Announces Ten Worst Automobiles for 2007

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--The Truth About Cars (TTAC) website has named its Ten Worst Automobiles for 2007. According to TTAC publisher Robert Farago, the second annual award names and shames "the worst of the worst." "From a long and ignoble list of nominees, our readers have chosen ten cars that are less desirable than swordfish ice cream. They're a rolling condemnation of their manufacturers' lack of vision, taste, engineering and marketing."

The ten finalists were chosen by the automotive website's 27k+ daily readers via an online poll. TTAC readers submitted 136 vehicles for the Ten Worst Automobiles Award. The site's writers narrowed the nominees down to a short list of 20 vehicles. TTAC then provided an online poll to select the final ten "winners."

This year, all ten finalists are either Chrysler or General Motors' products.

Mention of gang ties causes mistrial

After about two minutes of testimony Tuesday afternoon, a Northampton County judge declared a mistrial in the attempted homicide trial of two men accused of a shootout in the parking lot of a Palmer Township diner.

Terrence L. Fitzpatrick, 34, and Brandon Fleming, 24, are charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit homicide and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.

Marvin Dowe, one of two men who were shot Nov. 25, 2006, outside the Tic Toc Family Restaurant, was the first witness called by Assistant District Attorney Robert Eyer. He said Fitzpatrick shot him.

Residents strip down inn's business

OCEANSIDE, Ore. -- One young mother from Tillamook gathers her five children and drives two scenic miles to go beachcombing at a quaint hideaway off U.S. Highway 101.Another Tillamook mother slips into a black gown and drives to the same town to dance at the only exotic club on the northern Oregon coast -- the Anchor Inn and Grill. They, along with strip-club patrons, visiting families, longtime residents and retirees, mix it up in this quiet community. Dependent on vacation rentals and tourists, pint-size Oceanside -- population 326 -- sustains one cafe, one coffee shop, one nude adult entertainment venue and lots of feuding citizens. For the past three years, a dispute over growth and development has divided the community. Angry neighbors boycotted the Anchor because it expanded. Then, nearly broke, another owner of the Anchor brought in strippers in December as a last resort. Now a state land-use board is investigating the matter.

Harry Redknapp backs James for 2010 World Cup

James is clearly relishing his new lease of life. "I’m loving it at the moment," he said. "I’m happy to contribute, but goals win games. It was a tough game and they were possibly the better side, but, saying that, their keeper has made some good saves himself, so we weren’t completely out of it."

Hoover no stranger to water

Hoover's love of water can be traced even further back to childhood vacations at Cape Cod. Those days created a penchant for seafood, which lead to the occasional trip east for fried clams.

The new chamber director is not naive enough to think Kent could spawn the type of economic activity downtown Peninsula enjoys during summer months. But, as bike trails come together in Kent, it's obvious both communities share some amenities. And Kent has the promise of canoe and kayak activity, whereas Peninsula relies heavily on bicycle traffic.

"I think it's a piece," Hoover said of the proposed white water park. "It's not going to be the one thing. The challenge with something like that is it's very seasonal."

The chamber board of directors voted Thursday to appoint Hoover to take over for former director Dan Smith.

Mix: Gameloft, Safari HD, iPhone, Poolga

During a recent speech, Gameloft founder Michel Guillemot featured an image of an iPhone running a Gameloft game in one of his slides. Pocket Gamer suggests that although the image may have been a mock-up, given Gameloft's past relationship with Apple on iPod games, it would not be surprising to see the company develop games for the iPhone.

Safari HD, an unofficial hack for the Apple TV that allows users to browse the internet using the set-top box, has been released and updated for compatibility with Apple TV software 2.0. Safari HD uses the WebKit rendering engine, and supports web plugins such as Flash and any others supported by Safari.

A panel at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain last week praised the iPhone for its ease of use and interface.
